Soul Love: THE OBAMAS

As a romance writer I can truly appreciate beautiful, black couples in love. It’s what I write about and it’s what I love to to see on the regular. Every so often I will highlight and celebrate beautiful, black couples in love. And who better to kick it off with than one of the most affectionate couples I’ve ever seen. I love, love, love the PDA between these two and it excites me for them to be such a fly example of the power of soul love…

MICHELLE AND BARACK OBAMA

Like many of the romance novels I write and still read, Michelle and Obama first met in 1989 in thier workplace, a corporate law firm. She was his attractive, smart and stylish mentor, while he was the handsome and smart attorney there as a summer associate. Barack, the persistent hero, asked Michelle, our seemingly reluctant heroine, out for a date for a solid month before Michelle gave in. Well, nothing worth having comes easy. Their first night out on the town was the classic dinner and a movie. Nearly three years later, on October 18, 1992 in Chicago, Illinois the couple wed, beginning their happily ever after. They were soon blessed with two beautiful daughters, Malia Ann (born 1998) and Natasha (born 2001). The ever affectionate Obamas still call Chicago home, residing in a historic Georgian home on the South Side. In the true fashion of a romantic hero and bonafide family man, Barack tries to to be home every weekend from Washington, DC.

The Obamas on family, love, and the effect of his political career on his marriage:

Michelle: “Time and love and sacrifice and struggles make you stronger.”

Barack: “What I realize as I get older is that Michelle is less concerned about me giving her flowers than she is that “m doing things that are hard for me — carving out time. That to her is proof, evidence that I’m thinking about her. She appreciates the flowers, but to her romance is that I’m actually paying attention to things that she cares about, and time is always an important factor.”

Awwww. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this couple.
