“Hey Mama, I wanna scream so loud for you, cuz I’m so proud of you … I appreciate what you allowed for me. I just want you to be proud of me.” -Kanye West
.
The tragic news that rap superstar Kanye West lost his mother, Donda West, over the weekend has me thinking of my own mother. The thought of having to face losing her (or leaving her to face losing me) is heart-aching. I was going to post on something else but I want to just take a moment and honor my mother, Letha Bryant, while she is here to hear my words and feel my love.
Mama:
I thank you for raising me to be a woman.
I thank you for showing me how to be strong and independent.
I thank you for raising me and my older brother alone and doing a damn good job at it.
I thank you for always putting us first.
I thank you for your love and her support.
I thank you for always having my back–even calling me on my ish when I’m wrong.
I thank you for our hour long phone talks, our yearly visits to see each other, sending me my favorite snacks from the East Coast when I’m craving them, buying me things just because you know I will love them, reading and buying every one of my books…
I could go on forever.
I love and cherish you, Mama.
Rest in Peace, Ms. West.
Peace y’all,
N.
God Bless Kanye West for the lost of his mother and be with him and his family.
Amen 😦
